Salary

£19.51 per hour while training, rising to £29.27 per hour once moved to night shift.

Working Hours

Initial training will be on a day shift for about one month, followed by a transition to the night shift. Training hours are Monday to Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Internal/External grinding using MDI (Manual Data Input) CNC machinery, surface grinding and thread grinding.
  • Operator Control of Quality (OCQ) – stamping to confirm quality of assemblies to company and customer standards.
  • Ensure on‑time delivery by completing work to the required standard.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, follow process layout and documentation procedures.
  • Work effectively in a lean environment.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Engineering apprenticeship (desirable but not essential).
  • Knowledge of grinding tolerances and finishes to aerospace standards (e.g., 0.0002″ internal/external diameter, 2‑4 micro‑inch surface finishes, 0.0002″ concentrate).
  • Honing experience.
  • Proficiency with hand‑measuring equipment such as digital micrometers, comparators, air‑plug gauges and surface‑finish measuring equipment.
  • High standard of health & safety compliance.
  • Adherence to company processes and procedures.
  • Experience working in a customer‑focused environment and achieving targets.
  • Experience collaborating with designers and engineers.
  • Full BPSS screening, including proof of legal right to work, criminal records check, and drugs screening.
  • Nationality must be UK, EU, or NATO for security reasons.

  • Understanding of aerospace practice and the significance of safety‑critical work.
  • PC literacy.
  • Teamwork, flexibility, initiative, and adherence to health & safety standards.
  • Desirably experienced with machining skills.
  • Proactive, with an eagerness to develop and learn new skills.
