Overview

The purpose of the role is to maximize the value of the product by defining a clear product vision, managing authoring, refining, and prioritising the Product Backlog, and ensuring the right things are built. The Product Owner serves as the primary liaison between stakeholders and delivery teams, drives the roadmap, and applies continuous improvement principles to deliver optimal value.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure product and feature alignment with business goals, using market research, customer feedback, and industry trends.
  • Communicate the product vision and goals to delivery teams, ensuring they understand and are inspired to deliver business value.
  • Create and refine clear, concise user stories with acceptance criteria.
  • Participate in Agile events such as sprint planning, daily stand‑ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Manage the product backlog: create, maintain, prioritise, and balance risk, future proofing, and strategy.
  • Act as the Voice of the Customer, gathering feedback to improve user experience.
  • Define acceptance criteria, review and accept/reject completed work in sprints.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders (customers, business leaders, marketing) to gather requirements and align product vision with objectives.
  • Monitor product performance using KPIs and customer feedback, and iterate the backlog and roadmap accordingly.
  • Oversee ongoing readiness and run activities of live products, including monitoring, governance, and approvals.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks, escalating them as necessary and aligning with control functions.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience as a Senior or Lead Product Owner in large‑scale organisations.
  • Proven track record of enterprise‑scale product backlog ownership and prioritisation.
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and product delivery practices.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to engage senior leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance strategic objectives, regulatory requirements, and operational priorities.
  • Experience with enterprise data platforms, master or reference data, or party data domains is highly valued.
  • Financial services experience or experience in a highly regulated environment is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Barclays Product, Data, or Change frameworks and enterprise data governance principles is advantageous.

Location & Working Arrangements

This role is based in Glasgow with a hybrid working model that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the office.
