Job Summary

Grade G – Salary £34,434 to £38,220 (pay award pending). Permanent contract.

Essential requirements: valid current UK driving licence.

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic Technical Officer to join our busy Pollution Control team at Bolton Council.

As part of a friendly and supportive team, you will carry out a wide range of duties in relation to pollution control matters including nuisance and contaminated land. You will see through cases from the provision of advice, guidance, serving of notices to enforcement and deal with a wide range of customers. The work will be reactive in dealing with complaints and requests and also proactive in assessing the environmental impacts of planning applications. You will also respond to licensing consultations. Using your excellent communication and customer care skills you will promote excellent standards within Bolton and be able to take appropriate enforcement action where required, to achieve compliance. Your excellent decision‑making skills will be key to this role.

The pollution control team sits within Regulatory Services who cover statutory functions of food, health and safety, licensing, education and enforcement, pest control and trading standards.

The work is varied and challenging, and the role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your skills and experience within our team. You will manage and complete your own workload to set deadlines whilst assisting colleagues when needed.

About You

You must be able to cope with a demanding workload whilst managing your priorities and be happy both working as part of a team and on your own. The ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people is key.

You must be able to evaluate, consider options and make decisions.

The ability to accurately collect and record information, organise and examine data, and identify relationships between sets of data is key for this role.

You must have a flexible approach, as you may be required to carry out other Regulatory Services functions from time to time and, where necessary, work outside of core hours.
