You will support employers across the NHS to implement and embed the Staff Standards through signposting, practical guidance and the sharing of good practice approaches to local implementation, aligned to the 10 Year Health Plan and other relevant national policies. Through collaboration with internal colleagues and external partners, you will support the Programme Manager to deliver workforce developments that drive continuous improvement, enhance staff experience, improve retention and positively impact patient care, including advancing the EDI agenda.
Main duties of the job
As a Senior Programme Officer Staff Standards, you will:
- Lead communications and engagement to drive awareness and uptake of the NHS Staff Standards.
- Develop and maintain practical tools, guidance and resources to support employers.
- Gather insight and feedback to shape and continuously improve programme delivery.
- Design and deliver webinars, events and implementation support for NHS organisations.
- Identify and share good practice to support consistent, sustainable approaches across the system.
- Build strong stakeholder relationships and contribute to national policy and workforce conversations.
Job responsibilities
- Lead communications and engagement: coordinate and deliver a clear, consistent communications and engagement approach (with DHSC, NHS England and internal teams) to maximise awareness, understanding and uptake of the NHS Staff Standards across national channels.
- Develop and maintain implementation resources: oversee a dedicated Staff Standards web hub, providing clear mapping of employer actions and signposting to tools, guidance, evidence and resources to support local delivery.
- Gather insight and shape programme delivery: use NHS Employers, SPF and other networks to collect employer feedback, insight and intelligence on readiness, challenges and implementation, and use this to inform and refine programme activity.
- Design and deliver employer support offer: develop and deliver a range of implementation support products and activities (e.g. guidance, FAQs, readiness tools, webinars, events and case studies) aligned to employer need.
Person Specification
Experience
- Understanding staff standards, staff experience, and key workforce challenges facing NHS employers.
- Ability to proactively manage work independently, meet tight deadlines, and manage competing priorities.
- Experience supporting or coordinating programme/project delivery, including planning, tracking actions and monitoring progress.
- Experience producing high-quality written outputs, including briefings, reports and digital content.
- Experience evaluating activity and demonstrating impact and learning.
- Ability to build and maintain effective professional working relationships within and beyond the NHS.
- Experience working in staff experience or workforce policy-related roles.
- Understanding trade unions and social partnership working within the NHS.
