Manufacturing Engineering Manager
Closing Date for Application: Thursday 18/06/2026 – The Manufacturing Engineering Manager is responsible for the day‑to‑day leadership and execution of engineering activities across site operations, ensuring safe, efficient and high‑performing manufacturing and facilities environments. This role translates the engineering strategy set by the CMS Operations Engineering Director into operational delivery, driving performance across manufacturing and engineering projects.
Responsibilities
- Safety & Compliance – Lead a Safety First culture across all engineering activities on site; ensure compliance with all HSE, statutory and regulatory requirements; drive safe systems of work, risk assessments and engineering standards.
- Engineering Operations Delivery – Own the daily execution of engineering support to production; ensure equipment uptime, reliability and responsiveness to breakdowns; manage and prioritise engineering workload aligned to production needs; lead daily engineering reviews and escalation processes.
- PLC, Automation & Flow Line Performance – Develop and maintain a strong understanding of PLC‑controlled systems and automated equipment; support fault‑finding and problem‑solving on PLC‑driven manufacturing lines; drive optimisation of automated flow lines to improve TAKT, cycle time and throughput; work closely with engineering and controls specialists to enhance system performance and reliability; ensure robust documentation, backups and change control for PLC systems.
- Operational Process Optimisation – Drive understanding of full manufacturing process flow from goods‑in to dispatch; identify bottlenecks, constraints and inefficiencies across production lines; support line‑balancing, standard work and continuous flow principles; ensure engineering solutions align with operational needs and production targets; track and improve downtime, mean time between failure and asset performance metrics; support lifecycle planning and asset replacement strategies.
- OEE Support & Performance Improvement – Support the development and deployment of OEE measurement across manufacturing areas; ensure accurate capture and categorisation of downtime and performance losses; work with production teams to analyse OEE losses and identify root causes; drive engineering‑led improvements to increase equipment availability and reduce breakdown losses; support initiatives to improve line performance and reduce micro‑stoppages; collaborate with Quality and Production teams to reduce defect‑related losses; provide data‑driven insights to support continuous improvement activity.
- GBS – Continuous Improvement & Lean – Identify and deliver process improvements, cost reduction and efficiency gains; lead and support Kaizen activities and CI initiatives, using the GBS tools; embed Lean tools and standardised engineering practices.
- Project & Change Implementation – Support delivery of capital projects and engineering improvements; ensure smooth installation, commissioning and handover; support new product introduction and operational readiness.
- Quality & Standards – Work closely with Quality to ensure robust engineering standards and processes; support development and adherence to Quality Management Systems; ensure engineering changes are controlled, documented and validated.
- Team Leadership & Development – Lead, coach and develop engineering teams on site; drive engagement, accountability and performance management; build capability in maintenance, manufacturing engineering, automation and CI/GBS tools.
- Planning & Collaboration – Support resource planning and capacity alignment; collaborate with Production, Supply Chain and Quality teams; ensure engineering input into planning cycles.
- Cost & Budget Control – Support management of engineering budgets and cost control; identify and deliver cost‑down opportunities; manage contractors and external engineering support effectively.
Qualifications
- Strong engineering leadership experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Operational understanding of PLC systems, automation and fault‑finding.
- Experience working with automated flow lines and continuous production environments.
- Proven experience in maintenance, manufacturing engineering and site services.
- Demonstrated ability to improve equipment reliability and operational performance.
- Experience supporting OEE frameworks and performance improvement initiatives.
- Strong problem‑solving and data‑driven decision‑making capability.
- Effective leadership, communication and team development skills.
