Interim Infrastructure Specialist – Birmingham

The rewards

  • £400 per day (Inside IR35)
  • Initial 3 month contract with likely extensions

The role of Interim Infrastructure Specialist:

  • Conducting a full discovery and assessment of the current infrastructure estate across Entra ID, Intune, Group Policy, and patching
  • Leading the rationalisation of Group Policy and developing a structured migration roadmap to Intune
  • Enhancing and optimising Autopilot deployments, including defining and validating a standard build process
  • Reviewing and strengthening the Microsoft Entra environment, including Conditional Access, identity security, and privileged access
  • Improving workstation patch management, including update rings, compliance reporting, and user impact considerations
  • Auditing application registrations, permissions, and group structures within Microsoft Entra
  • Developing clear, reusable documentation and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Supporting knowledge transfer and producing a comprehensive handover at the end of the engagement

The ideal Interim Infrastructure Specialist:

  • Proven experience in a hands‑on Infrastructure / Endpoint / EUC role
  • Strong technical expertise in Microsoft Intune & Autopilot, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), and Group Policy design, analysis, and migration
  • Experience working in hybrid infrastructure environments (on‑prem and cloud)
  • Strong understanding of Conditional Access, identity governance, and endpoint compliance
  • Experience designing or improving patch management strategies
  • Ability to produce clear technical documentation and work autonomously in a project‑led environment
  • Desirable: Experience delivering GPO-to-Intune transformation projects
  • Desirable: Exposure to high‑availability or regulated environments
  • Desirable: Experience working alongside MSPs or third‑party providers

Our client is a well-established, Birmingham-based organisation operating within a complex, multi-site environment, currently undertaking a significant digital and infrastructure maturity programme.

Working within a small but highly collaborative ICT team, you will support the delivery of key initiatives across a hybrid (on-prem and Azure) infrastructure, in a business where reliability, security, and efficiency are critical.

This is a short-term contract role with a strong emphasis on endpoint management, identity, and cloud-first transformation.
