Paediatric Mental Health Support Worker (Band 3)
Contract: Permanent. Hours: Full time (37.5 hours per week, hours to be discussed at interview). Location: Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, Bristol. Employer: University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust. Salary: £24,625 – £25,674 p.a. (pro rata). Closing date: 28/06/2026. Interview date: 15/07/2026.
About the role
Provide care, compassion, assessment and engagement with children, young people and their families who are admitted to BRHC with mental health needs. Work across days, nights, weekends and bank holidays to ensure full service coverage. Join a supportive team with supervision and guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Support children and young people with mental health needs.
- Deliver assessments and care interventions following NHS policies.
- Document all care activities accurately.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.
- Work long‑day and night shifts, including weekends and bank holidays.
Qualifications and Experience
- Maths qualification at GCSE A*-C / 4‑9 or Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent.
- English qualification at GCSE A*-C / 4‑9 or Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent.
- Level 3 qualification (or higher) in any subject.
- Acute experience in a physical or mental‑health setting.
- Experience or passion for working with children and young people.
- Strategies to support wellbeing when working with distressed young people.
- Ability to work a mixture of long‑day and night shifts, weekends and bank holidays.
Training Programme
If you do not have previous acute experience, you may apply for a 12‑week Band 2 to Band 3 trainee programme to develop the necessary skills.
