Job Overview

This role is for an Estimator based in Nottinghamshire at a well‑established precision engineering and manufacturing business. Candidates should have a strong CNC machining background and either current experience in estimating or aim to transition from the shop floor to an office‑based technical role.

Location: NottinghamshireSalary: £27,000 – £45,000 per annum (DOE)Hours: Monday to Friday, 6:45am – 3:30pmEmployment Type: Permanent, Full Time

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models and technical specifications.
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates and detailed quotations.
  • Calculate machining times, material costs, tooling, fabrication time and subcontract processes.
  • Liaise with CNC, fabrication, quality and planning teams to validate production times.
  • Source material and subcontract pricing from suppliers.
  • Maintain and update pricing models for repeat and new work.
  • Identify cost‑saving and value‑engineering opportunities.
  • Support tender submissions and respond to customer enquiries.
  • Maintain accurate quote, margin, and conversion records.
  • Provide technical input during customer meetings, audits and project reviews.
  • Ensure all quotations meet business standards for accuracy, profitability and lead time.

Candidate Requirements

Essential:

  • Background in precision engineering or CNC machining.
  • Proven experience as a CNC Miller.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, tolerances and machining principles.
  • Confident using manual inspection equipment.
  • High attention to detail and strong problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to manage workload independently.

Desirable:

  • CNC program editing or writing experience.
  • 3‑axis or 4‑axis machining experience.
  • NVQ Level 3 or completed apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering / Machining.
