Full time, permanent. Location: Hybrid working, expected to attend 100 Temple Street at least once a week. This is a community‑based role; you will be expected to visit service users in their own homes throughout the Bristol City area.

An opportunity has arisen to recruit 2 x Support Workers within the Community Support Team, a housing‑related support service based within Housing Options. The role involves providing high‑quality, person‑centred support to vulnerable adults to prevent homelessness, promote independence, and achieve positive outcomes. You will work directly in the community and in people’s homes, supporting individuals to sustain tenancies, access appropriate accommodation, and engage with relevant services.

Your responsibilities include assessing client needs, developing and delivering tailored support plans, managing a caseload of clients, and delivering targeted, time‑limited, outcome‑focused homelessness prevention support, including working with Bristol City Council tenants at risk of homelessness due to rent arrears. You will be well organised, able to work independently, with excellent communication and prioritisation skills, and able to adapt and respond effectively in a fast‑paced, client‑focused environment.

You will join a friendly, collaborative team and receive a comprehensive induction, including opportunities to shadow experienced colleagues.

If you have experience working with vulnerable people and a strong commitment to public service, we would welcome your application.

This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS Check.

Benefits include flexible working and flexitime arrangements, membership of the Local Government Pension scheme, and a generous annual leave allowance.

To be shortlisted for an interview you’ll need to demonstrate how you meet each of the essential criteria in the Person Specification within the Further Information section of your application. You may also be assessed against desirable criteria.

We are a Disability Confident employer and guarantee an interview to any disabled applicant who meets the essential criteria. We will make reasonable adjustments throughout the interview process and provide continued workplace support.

For further information or an informal discussion about the role, please contact Jodie Coombs, Team Leader, jodie.coombs@bristol.gov.uk.

Bristol City Council strives to have a workforce that reflects the communities it serves. We welcome, develop and promote people from all sections of the community. Appointments will be made on merit.

The personal information section (including your name) you’ll complete as part of the application form will not be visible to hiring managers, but is used confidentially to ensure fair treatment.
