Job Description
Training and Core Responsibilities
Your role begins with a comprehensive paid 12‑day consecutive training program at the Fire Service College in Moreton‑In‑Marsh, covering skills essential for deployment, including:
- Hose running
- Hydrant operation
- Pump operation
- Ladder climbing
- HAZMAT (Decontamination training)
- Road Traffic Collision (RTC) – the use of hydraulic cutting equipment
- First Aid
- Breathing Apparatus (full mask) for search and rescue
- Offensive and Defensive Firefighting
Key Responsibilities
- Engage in ongoing training to maintain deployable status, including a 12‑day initial training and annual 6‑day refresher courses.
- Participate in scenario‑based training and skills practice during ‘stand‑down’ times to ensure full readiness.
- In the event of a deployment, be able to respond quickly to designated emergency locations within the UK and be prepared for periods of training and exercises.
- Support emergency response activities, performing tasks typically handled by public service firefighters.
- Adhere to safety protocols for personal protective equipment, including use of breathing apparatus.
Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Stamina: Ability to run 100 meters, jog for 5 minutes, and complete a 12‑hour shift.
- Movement and Agility: Ability to climb ladders up to 8m, navigate confined spaces, and maintain flexibility in movement.
- Strength: Capability to lift up to 25kg and drag 55kg (e.g., heavy equipment or simulated rescue scenarios).
- Environment Adaptability: Ability to work in extreme temperatures, variable weather, and in enclosed or dark spaces.
- Vision and Hearing: Unassisted ability to read and distinguish sounds.

Medical Fitness
Applicants must meet medical standards for firefighting duties, ensuring no health conditions could hinder performance. A clean‑shaven policy is required for safe wearing of breathing apparatus.
