Locum Consultant Radiologist (Breast Imaging) – 6 Month Fixed-Term Contract

We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a Breast Locum Consultant Radiologist to join our team on a 6-month fixed-term contract, providing maternity cover. Posts are available for an immediate start.

You will become part of a growing and forward-thinking Consultant team, reflecting the increasing demand and expansion of our imaging services. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a high-performing department committed to delivering outstanding patient care.

Working closely with the wider multidisciplinary team, you will provide a high-quality diagnostic breast imaging service, supporting both screening and symptomatic pathways. You will play a key role in maintaining clinical excellence, ensuring accurate diagnosis, and contributing to effective patient management.

We are seeking a committed and motivated Radiologist with expertise in breast imaging, strong clinical skills, and a collaborative approach to teamwork.

Main duties of the job

  • Contribute to development of the specialist breast imaging service to support the Trust in ensuring provision of high quality diagnostic support throughout the week including sessions in ultrasound & cross-sectional imaging.
  • Work flexibly with colleagues to support the timely management of emergencies and inpatients.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary clinical meetings (MDT).
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of clinical protocols.
  • Ensure that standards are maintained and developed through clinical audit, evidence- based research and appraisal.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • MBBS or Equivalent
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of training (CCT) at time of interview
  • Evidence of completion of specialist training or equivalent
  • MRCP, MRCS or Equivalent FRCR

Experience

  • Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in the specialty
  • Experience of supervising undergraduates, resident doctors and other staff
  • Fellowship or experience in Breast Radiology.
  • Proven Management Experience.
  • Experience in resource management and quality assurance.

Knowledge

  • Comprehensive knowledge in the specialty and ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems.
  • Demonstrates good knowledge of the structures and culture of the NHS, roles, responsibilities and relationships across the MDT and the multi-professional team
  • Knowledge of the principles of research/audit and ability to interpret and apply clinical research.
