Role

The Registration Support Assistant provides back‑office and administrative support to the registration and ceremonies teams and answers enquiries from customers face‑to‑face, by phone and by email. The role covers birth, death, marriage or civil partnership registration, ceremony arrangements and British citizenship processes. Working Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, 08:55‑16:45, with half an hour lunch, the position is based at Hereford Register Office with occasional coverage of the Town Hall certificate office.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with registration of births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships.
  • Organise and support ceremonies and related paperwork.
  • Maintain accurate records in IT systems and manage data entry.
  • Respond to customer enquiries and provide professional advice.
  • Handle sensitive situations with tact and professionalism.
  • Adhere to legislation, national standards and best practice.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven customer‑facing experience, preferably within a registration or public service setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and administrative capabilities.
  • Attention to detail and a proactive, solution‑focused approach.
  • Experience with IT systems for record management.
  • Desirable: prior registration experience, though transferable skills are valued.
