An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, dynamic, highly motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Haemoglobinopathy team, within Haematology at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. The role will involve a blended approach to working across inpatient, outpatient and community care settings.

We are seeking an experienced and caring individual with a genuine interest in Haemoglobinopathy to work within the team. The post holder must be able to drive and have access to their own vehicle for work purposes.

The post holder will operate as an independent practitioner/clinical expert with in-depth knowledge and experience of haemoglobinopathy.

Candidates will have extensive experience of health care governance, education and development, audit and incident investigation. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in Trust wide and Regional safety initiatives and improvement projects relating to Haemoglobinopathy.

Main duties of the job

This role involves working as a Nurse Specialist across inpatient, outpatient, and community settings, providing seamless, patient‑centred care throughout the healthcare pathway.

The postholder will assess, plan, and deliver specialist care to patients during hospital admissions, outpatient appointments, and within community bases.

The role requires strong clinical expertise, effective communication, working effectively as part of the MDT and the ability to coordinate care across services to ensure continuity, improve outcomes, reduce inpatient stays, support discharge from hospital and support patients in managing their condition across different care environments.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 22 months due to the post being externally funded. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust’s legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the ongoing source of the external funding and the requirement for the post to be maintained.

Please note all existing NHS staff will only be considered on a secondment basis. This must first be agreed with your current line manager.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

  • RGN‑Adult
  • NMC registered
  • To have completed the national practice assessor training or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998
  • Evidence of continued Professional Development at level 7
  • Evidence of knowledge and expertise in the care and management of Haemoglobinopathy patients
  • Non‑medical prescriber (or willingness to undertake)

Experience

  • Extensive, demonstrable post registration experience in the speciality including experience/knowledge of service management, planning and delivery.
  • Experience of caseload management, health assessment and advanced skills in patient education
  • Substantial post registration Experience at Band 6
  • Evidence of teaching and assessing and commitment to professional development, research and education
  • Ability to work independently and autonomously, as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent organisational, time management and communication skills.
  • Experience working in a primary/community nursing setting

Skills and Knowledge

  • Significant knowledge of treatments accessed by Haemoglobinopathy patients.
  • Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
  • An understanding of Clinical Governance and research‑based nursing practice
  • Ability to consult and liaise with a range of professionals
  • Commitment to equal opportunities and can demonstrate knowledge of the national and local equity and diversity agenda
  • Evidence of autonomous practice and running nurse led clinics
  • Valid full UK driving licence and access to a car to travel within the required geographical radius
  • Advanced IT skills across multiple health‑based systems
