Overview

Part-time Maternity Support Workers (MSWs) are required to support the midwife and multidisciplinary team in delivering safe, holistic, woman‑centred care. Three part‑time positions are being advertised. As these roles are part‑time, they are not eligible for sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Assist, support and work collaboratively with the midwife and wider team to provide clinical care following appropriate training.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of partnership with women and their families, fostering positive relationships and respecting decisions, particularly during critical or separated family circumstances.
  • Operate within the MSW scope of practice, escalating to the MDT as needed to align with national and local guidance and avoid harm.

Administrative Duties

  • Ensure accurate and confidential clinical documentation (written or electronic) is collected, updated, stored and filed in accordance with local information governance and record‑keeping policy.
  • Provide administrative support to the maternity team in both hospital and community settings.
  • Track, obtain and file clinical records as required by local policy and guidance.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Essential: GCSE Maths A‑C, Levels 4‑9, or equivalent; GCSE English A‑C, Levels 4‑9, or equivalent; NVQ Level 3 in Health Care or equivalent experience; commitment to undertake in‑house training; Care Certificate.
  • Desirable: Foundation Degree in Maternity Pathway.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Essential: Previous experience working with members of the public; understanding of safeguarding issues; awareness of health and safety issues; knowledge and understanding of data protection and confidentiality.
  • Desirable: One year’s formal maternity care experience in a hospital or birth centre; experience using a hospital patient record system; experience working in an acute hospital setting.

Person Specification – Qualification & Professional Training

  • Essential: GCSE Maths A‑C, Levels 4‑9, or equivalent; GCSE English A‑C, Levels 4‑9, or equivalent; NVQ Level 3 in Health Care or equivalent experience; commitment to undertake in‑house training; Care Certificate.
