We’re recruiting a Trainee SEND Teaching Assistant to join a supportive Special School in Batley, Kirklees, working with students aged 5–13 with Autism and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs while completing a fully funded Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship. Pupils may have additional diagnoses including ADHD, anxiety, communication and interaction difficulties, and cognition and learning needs. The school provides a therapeutic, trauma-informed learning environment with personalised support to help students develop academically, socially, and emotionally while preparing for their future pathways.

Key responsibilities

  • Support students 1:1 and in small groups
  • Work with pupils with SEND, SEMH, ASD, ADHD, and learning difficulties
  • Support emotional regulation, behaviour, and engagement
  • Assist with literacy, numeracy, and subject-based interventions
  • Implement support strategies from EHCPs and behaviour plans
  • Support inclusion within the classroom and specialist provisions
  • Assist teachers with lesson preparation and learning resources
  • Support targeted interventions and revision sessions
