Senior Project Manager – Distribution Centre Transformation

Type: Contract – Remote with some travel (UK/EU)

Job Purpose

The Senior Project Manager will play a critical role in the scoping, planning and delivery of Distribution Centre (DC) lifecycle initiatives across a global logistics network, including new DC start-ups, customer implementations, site transitions, expansions, automation deployments and major operational change programmes.

The Senior Project Manager will be accountable for establishing robust governance, managing budgets and risks, coordinating cross-functional stakeholders, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and achieve targeted operational and commercial outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead project discovery, options analysis, solution design and business case development for DC transformation initiatives.
  • Manage end-to-end delivery of new site launches, customer implementations, transitions, expansions and operational change projects.
  • Develop project plans, budgets, governance frameworks, risk registers and stakeholder communication plans.
  • Partner with operational, technical and commercial teams to design practical, scalable warehouse solutions.
  • Lead WMS implementation, upgrade and optimisation projects, ensuring successful integration with operational and customer systems.
  • Support the evaluation and deployment of warehouse automation technologies and material handling solutions.
  • Manage third-party suppliers, technology partners and implementation teams.
  • Ensure operational readiness, change management and benefits realisation activities are effectively delivered.
  • Provide regular reporting and recommendations to senior leadership and project governance boards.

Skills & Experience

  • Significant experience delivering large-scale logistics, warehousing or supply chain transformation projects.
  • Proven track record of Distribution Centre start-ups, transitions, expansions or automation programmes.
  • Strong experience in project scoping, business case development, programme mobilisation and delivery.
  • Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), systems integration and warehouse automation technologies.
  • Strong stakeholder management, commercial awareness and financial management skills.
  • Project management qualification (PMP, PRINCE2, APM or equivalent) desirable
