Job Description:

Senior Automation Tester

Manchester City Centre | £70,000 – £80,000 | 4 Days Onsite

Most QA roles ask you to maintain existing frameworks.

This one asks you to build the quality function that protects an entire technology platform.

We’re working with a fast-growing technology business that is investing heavily in engineering, automation and platform reliability. As the company continues to scale, they are looking for a Senior Automation Tester to take ownership of their automation capability and become the driving force behind testing strategy across mobile applications, APIs and backend systems.

This is a role for someone who genuinely enjoys solving complex technical problems and wants to move beyond simply writing automated tests.

You’ll be responsible for designing frameworks, improving quality processes, influencing engineering standards and ensuring critical software performs flawlessly in production.

What makes this role different?

You’ll be joining at a stage where your decisions will shape how automation is built and scaled across the business.

Rather than inheriting someone else’s framework, you’ll have the opportunity to design, implement and continuously improve the automation architecture from the ground up.

Key responsibilities:

• Design and build robust automation frameworks from scratch

• Own automation strategy across mobile and backend systems

• Develop and maintain automated test suites for Flutter applications

• Drive API testing, validation and contract testing initiatives

• Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines

• Improve regression coverage, performance testing and quality metrics

• Work closely with software engineers to investigate, reproduce and resolve complex issues

• Champion best practice across quality assurance and automation

• Influence testing standards and engineering processes

Technical environment:

• Flutter

• Dart

• Patrol

• Appium

• Maestro

• Postman

• Newman

• Playwright

• Cypress

• CI/CD pipelines

We’re particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:

• 5+ years of QA automation experience

• Strong mobile automation expertise

• Experience testing production Flutter applications

• Deep understanding of REST APIs and API automation

• Experience integrating automated testing into modern deployment pipelines

• Strong debugging and problem-solving capability

• Ability to work closely with developers and influence technical decisions

• Excellent communication skills

Who will thrive here?

Someone who enjoys ownership.

Someone who doesn’t wait to be told what needs improving.

Someone who can identify weaknesses in testing strategy and proactively build better solutions.

Someone who enjoys working closely with engineers, architects and product teams to deliver reliable, high-quality software.

Why join?

• Opportunity to own and shape automation strategy

• Significant influence over engineering quality standards

• Modern technology stack

• Fast-paced, high-growth environment

• Exposure to senior technical leadership

• Genuine autonomy and responsibility

• Clear opportunity to leave a lasting impact on the business

Package:

• £70,000 – £80,000 basic salary

• Additional benefits

• Manchester City Centre location

• Minimum 4 days onsite per week

• Long-term progression as the engineering function grows

If you’re looking for a role where quality engineering is treated as a strategic function rather than a support function, we’d be keen to speak with you.
