Role Overview
As Clinical Director of Research and Innovation, you will champion an inclusive research culture, strengthen academic and innovation capability, and translate discovery into meaningful improvements in care and patient experience. This role is central to growing our national and international research profile whilst developing the next generation of researchers and innovators across the organisation.
The Successful Clinical Directors of Research and Innovation at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust will lead, shape and deliver an ambitious vision for research, innovation and improvement across the Trust, ensuring the delivery of high quality, impactful research that improves outcomes for women, children and families.
Key Responsibilities
- Champion an inclusive research culture and promote values-led collaboration, innovation and excellence.
- Strengthen academic and innovation capability, translating discovery into meaningful improvements in care and patient experience.
- Set strategic direction and deliver transformational change within complex stakeholder environments.
- Lead, mentor and develop researchers and innovators across the organisation.
- Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships across the NHS, academia and external organisations, engaging effectively with patients, clinicians, academics and industry partners.
- Provide strategic direction for research and innovation across the Trust, ensuring high quality, impactful research.
Qualifications & Experience
- Established researcher or innovator with senior leadership experience in healthcare, academia or other research‑intensive environments.
- Proven track record of research excellence, academic credibility and influence at organisational and system level.
- Strong understanding of research and innovation across healthcare and commercial settings.
- Experience delivering transformational change and strategic direction in complex stakeholder environments.
- Demonstrable ability to lead, mentor and develop researchers and innovators.
- Success in building collaborative partnerships across the NHS, academia and external organisations.
- Commitment to an inclusive, values‑led culture that supports collaboration, innovation and excellence.
