This position sits in our Creative & Media service based in London. We combine data, technology, creative content, and paid media to crack brands’ business problems and drive revenue through a variety of digital marketing solutions. Our clients include eBay, PepsiCo, Visa and easyJet.

Job Purpose

The Creative Director role at DEPT is an integral part of the team, providing leadership, guidance, inspiration and support to social creatives, content creators and community managers at a range of different levels. The CD takes a hands‑on creative role, building, delegating and empowering the team to take on work, while also leading from the front when needed. The CD is responsible for driving the direction and output of our always‑on/editorial offering, ensuring both output and process remain high as the team grows. A key driver is the ability to be pop‑culture obsessed, chronically online, and ready to tap into trends, culture and comments. Innovation is essential, experimenting with new formats, platforms and AI, lofi production techniques and external creators to deliver content at the speed of culture. The Creative Director will take creative ownership of all assigned clients, striving for the best work delivered on budget and nurturing strong client relationships. The CD will update the ECD weekly or bi‑weekly on all ongoing and upcoming projects and oversee team growth and resourcing. Occasional additional projects or business opportunities may arise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Co‑Lead, develop, motivate and inspire the creative team and encourage collaboration
  • Be the face and voice of social creative at DEPT, raising the profile of the team
  • Hold promotion plans for creatives in their team (subject to approval and sign off by management)
  • Set objectives and performance goals for the team
  • Collaborate closely with other creative directors, including the design director
  • Balance hands‑on versus oversight of projects effectively
  • Work with the ECD to build processes, structures and raise the quality of creative
  • Nurture and build a happy and fulfilled creative team
  • Build productive relationships with other disciplines across the agency to deliver projects and new business pitches
  • Deliver and inspire innovative and high‑quality work across all team deliverables
  • Be aware of and respond to current advertising, media trends and pop culture
  • Use experience and ideas to contribute to the development of our creative process
  • Present work internally and externally to an excellent standard
  • Create award‑worthy work for our clients
  • Initiate and facilitate creative team collaboration, sharing, and cohesion through social and team‑building initiatives
  • Support and lead ad‑hoc PR and Marketing efforts to promote DEPT externally and within DEPT

  • Solid experience as a creative lead at a social agency or in‑house social team
  • Expert knowledge of social media and digital marketing
  • Experience building a creative team
  • A pedigree of pitch (and award)‑winning work
  • Outstanding portfolio of work that works
  • Ability to meet deadlines and collaborate well with the team and clients
  • High attention to visual and copywriting details
  • Ability to remain focused under pressure within a fast‑paced environment
  • A love for learning new things and exploring new mediums
