About The Role
Full time – 37.5 hours per week or Part Time – 30 hours per week
Are you a Clinical Psychologist ready to take the lead in a role where your expertise genuinely shapes lives? We are looking for someone who is committed to evidence-based care, energised by working within a skilled multidisciplinary team, and keen to build something they can be proud of. As our Senior Clinical Psychologist, you’ll be at the heart of clinical decision-making, surrounded by like-minded professionals in a department that takes psychology seriously. You will be joining friendly, well-established and highly regarded Psychology and Therapies department who take clinical excellence seriously and support each other to deliver it. You will provide a holistic and person-centred service to our patients who present with a wide range of mental health needs and psychiatric conditions. You will be supervised by the Head of Therapies – Consultant Clinical Psychologist.
As a department, we are working on a number of service development projects, including: trauma-informed care; making reflective practice more inclusive; and developing targeted psychological work for patients who are acutely unwell. Our team’s aim is for everyone at Nouvita to be touched positively by psychology – staff and patients!
In line with the seniority of the role, you will hold service-wide leadership responsibilities and will be expected to provide consultation and psychological thinking to the senior leadership team of the hospital. You will be proactive in this and show independence of thought and initiative.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing specialist psychological assessment and therapeutic interventions to inpatients across our wards
- Contributing to multidisciplinary formulation, care planning and risk management
- Provide support to Assistant Psychologists and trainees. They will utilise research skills in audit, service development and research relevant to the post.
- Leadership duties and responsibilities in line with the seniority of the role
- Supporting the department’s research, audit and service development activities
- Ensuring compliance with professional standards, NICE guidelines and Nouvita’s governance frameworks
- Representing the department in relevant internal and external meetings
Qualifications and required skills:
- Have a postgraduate qualification in Psychology recognised by the British Psychological Society / HCPC, which enables you to practice at a qualified level (e.g: Doctorate in Clinical / Counselling Psychology).
- Live registration or eligible for immediate registration as a Practitioner Psychologist by the HCPC
- Have sound knowledge and understanding of a wide range of mental health conditions and personality disorder
- Experience of working in a psychiatric inpatient unit
- Experience in using psychometric tools
- Experience of working with adults and older adult patients with presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity
- Experience of working with people who present with behaviours of concern (PBS knowledge is desirable)
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team.
- Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to patients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups
