Freelance Design Manager (Long-Term Contract)

Location: WolverhamptonWorking Arrangement: Hybrid (4 Days Office / 1 Day Remote)

We are currently seeking an experienced Design Manager for a long-term freelance opportunity based in the Wolverhampton area, supporting the delivery of major construction projects within a Tier 1 main contractor environment. This opportunity allows you to join an established project team on a long-term basis, working across complex and high-value schemes from pre-construction through to project completion.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate the design process throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring design information is delivered on programme, within budget, and in accordance with project requirements.
  • Act as the key link between clients, consultants, subcontractors, and delivery teams, driving design development and resolving technical challenges.
  • Coordinate consultant and subcontractor design packages, manage design programmes, review technical information, and lead design meetings.
  • Manage design risks and change control processes, ensuring timely release of information to support project delivery.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working as a Design Manager within the UK construction industry.
  • Essential Tier 1 main contractor experience.
  • Strong understanding of design management processes and ability to manage multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience delivering complex construction projects from pre-construction through to completion is highly desirable.
