Controls Systems Engineer – Full time – Solihull.

As a Controls Systems Engineer, you will be part of the Software Systems Capability function. You will specify, design and validate complex sub‑systems, including high‑level requirements for software and/or hardware components, create mathematical models and simulations of control and actuation systems, and ensure on‑time delivery and quality of the controls sub‑system.

Responsibilities

  • Review and agree high‑level control and instrumentation systems requirements and their testability.
  • Analyse and translate high‑level requirements into a validated design for the control and instrumentation system.
  • Capture applicable design constraints and quality attributes for the system.
  • Design and implement the control and instrumentation system to meet the requirements and standards.
  • Allocate system requirements to test vehicles defined in the verification plan.
  • Analyse the system for functional behaviour, including modelling and simulation, to demonstrate compliance with high‑level requirements.
  • Develop and review control system tests to provide evidence that requirements have been satisfied.
  • Analyse verification test results against system requirements.
  • Provide targeted testing of system functionality to support problem investigation, closures and customer issues.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of domain plant and platform interfaces, component technology and behaviour under normal and abnormal operation.
  • Experience with verification vehicles, controls design, system architecture, software and/or hardware architecture, and development process constraints.
  • Proficiency in design and analysis tools, and an appreciation of what can be achieved with them.
  • Professional courage to highlight concerns and risks regarding product suitability to meet safety and functional requirements.
  • Ability to interpret test results and provide informed opinions or conclusions, including understanding of measurement uncertainty.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage tasks to completion and to keep relevant business areas appropriately informed.
  • Knowledge of system safety principles such as “put safety first” and the company’s core behaviours.
