Bridge Inspector

Up and Under Ltd, a member of the RSK Group, is an engineering consultancy undertaking inspections and surveys of bridges, buildings and other structures within the transportation, utilities and built sectors. We are hiring Bridge Inspectors/Examiners (full‑time, permanent) based in Crewe, Cheshire. Hybrid working is available with occasional site based work throughout the UK.

Responsibilities

• Inspection of a variety of structures including nationally strategic importance
• Lead inspection teams
• Prepare reports, drawings, and defect schedules
• Undertake complex one‑off projects
• Adhere to comprehensive quality, health and safety systems (ISO compliant)
• Hybrid working with site‑based projects; travel across UK required; night and weekend work with overtime rates when needed

Essential Requirements

• Experience of bridge inspection or maintenance (highways or rail; other structural inspection experience acceptable if relevant)
• Sound technical understanding of construction materials and forms
• Basic office IT skills (Word, Excel, databases, CAD, web research, email, file management)
• Well organized, focused, and able to motivate others
• Interest in fundamentals of engineering and ability to communicate
• Proven high‑quality report writing skills
• Knowledge of investigation methods for common construction materials
• Full UK driving licence
• Reasonable level of fitness for walking over rough terrain, steps, steep embankments, ladders, scaffold, adverse weather

Preferable Qualifications

• HND in relevant construction discipline
• NVQ in relevant construction discipline
• EngTech
• BICS (Inspector)
• STE03, 04, 05 or 07
• Any combination of the above
• Successful drug and alcohol screening prior to and during employment
• Working towards or attained Bridge Inspector Certification Scheme (BICS) to inspector level or Network Rail STE levels
