Lead Dental Receptionist/Patient Administrator – Barrow Dental Clinic

NHS AfC: Band 3

Main area: Dental Receptionist Grade NHS AfC: Band 3. Contract: Permanent. Hours: Part time – 30 hours per week (4 days per week).

Site: Barrow Dental Centre, Town Barrow in Furness. Salary: £25,760 – £27,476 per annum (pro rata). Closing 26/06/2026 23:59.

Job Overview

Ensure the dental reception team operates efficiently and effectively. Manage a team of receptionists across the Furness and South Lakes area, perform routine reception duties within Special Care and Community Dental Services, and support administrative arrangements for patients referred to the Dental Service.

Collect, collate and present information required by Senior Management and Commissioners to monitor service demand, provision and waiting list times. Duties will be based at Barrow Dental Centre and include travel to other Dental Service outlets within the county.

Main Duties

  • Provide routine and specialist dental care support, including special care dentistry, conscious sedation, cognitive behaviour therapy, general dental care under anaesthesia, and out‑of‑hours emergency dental access.
  • Support oral health promotion and prevention programmes, and participate in national dental epidemiological surveys and screening programmes.
  • Assist and complement the current dental team.

Required & Desirable Criteria

Qualifications

  • Literacy and numeracy skills to GCSE level or equivalent.
  • NVQ 3 in business administration or equivalent experience.
  • CLAIT certificate or equivalent (including Word & Excel).

Knowledge & Experience

  • Experience using Microsoft packages, particularly WORD and Excel.
  • Experience in a customer‑facing role.
  • Knowledge of Data Protection Act and patient confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of Information Governance.
  • Knowledge of administrative procedures and systems.
  • Patient appointment management system: Dentally.
  • Knowledge of the Special Care & Community Dental Service Pathway and Criteria.
  • Knowledge of local protocol for accessing emergency care via NHS 111 and FCMS triage system.
