Position Overview
Inverell Shire Council is looking for an individual to join the Northern Section of our Civil Engineering team in the role of Bitumen Patching Ganger/Driver. The role is responsible for a variety of maintenance and construction projects, including the supervision of a specialist patching unit and the operation of one of Council’s heavy trucks.
About Inverell Shire Council and the Civil Services team
- Construction and ongoing maintenance of a variety of Council assets including roads, stormwater pipes, bridges, parks and gardens and a variety of other assets.
- Road maintenance and repair service for Inverell and surrounding communities.
- Our truck drivers form a part of a larger team, including specialist plant operators, tradespeople, labourers and contractors with a number of specialities.
- Provide support to other areas of Council in our day‑to‑day operations, which can range from emergency and disaster response, event support and more.

Employment will be in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Local Government (State) Award 2023. The classification for the position will be up to Administrative/ Technical/ Trades Band 1, Level 4, Grade 7, and salary will be in a range from $1,190.10 to $1,281.53 gross per week in accordance with qualifications and experience. In addition, a Level 1 Adverse Working Conditions Allowance of $0.513 per hour will be paid where applicable.

Selection Criteria
- NSW School Certificate / Record of School Achievement or acceptable education standard.
- Successful completion of an approved course for Supervisors, or suitable experience in the supervision of a civil works team.
- Experience in the management of contractors.
- NSW Class HR Drivers Licence.
- Formal training in truck operations, or satisfactory experience in the industry.
- SafeWork NSW Traffic Controller Certificate or Traffic Control Work Training Card.
- SafeWork NSW General Construction Induction card (White Card).
- Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker accreditation.
- Implement Traffic Control Plans Certificate.
