Department: Science Apprenticeship – Materials L3Location: Chearsley, Aylesbury, HP18 0BXCompensation: £23,000 per year (increasing to National Minimum/Wage after 12 months)Expected Start Date: ASAP
The Package
- Weekly pay
- 22 days annual leave plus bank holidays (including 2 weeks off for Christmas)

- 40 hours per week (Mon‑Fri 7:30‑17:30, plus weekend overtime as needed)

Key Responsibilities
- Carry out sampling and testing of construction materials (soils, aggregates, concrete) in line with standards and client specifications.
- Perform a risk assessment for each point of work.
- Ensure equipment is calibrated and report any defects to line manager immediately.
- Record all readings, results and processes on appropriate sheets.
- Communicate clear instructions to site teams based on client specifications.
- Provide clear and concise data demonstrating compliance.
- Deliver daily/weekly work programmes with site teams.
- Maintain detailed site diary.
- Maintain personal CPD record and CV to demonstrate career development.
- Carry out additional relevant duties as requested.

- You follow procedures accurately and meet quality and safety standards.
- You learn best by doing and are comfortable with basic maths and data recording.
- You remain calm and focused around machinery and in fast‑paced environments.
- You can work independently after training and communicate clearly with site teams.
- You are motivated by contributing to tangible projects such as roads, buildings, and infrastructure.
- Age requirement: 18+.
- Full UK manual driving licence required.
Apprenticeship Eligibility
- 16 years old or older.
- Not in full‑time education.
- Lives in the UK for at least 3 years.
- Has right to work in the UK.
- Must not already hold a Level 3, degree or higher qualification in a closely related subject, nor significant experience in the same field.
How the Apprenticeship Works
- Level 3 Materials Technician apprenticeship, 20 months long.
- Combines day‑to‑day on‑site or lab work with structured training delivered by expert tutors.
- Includes at least 6 hours per week of off‑the‑job training (online sessions, virtual learning, practical activities).
- Progressive learning plan with a mentor in the workplace.
Future Opportunities
- Progress to permanent laboratory technician role.
- Potential to pursue higher‑level qualifications such as degree apprenticeships in Materials or Chemistry.
- Route to professional recognition (Registered Science Technician).
