Job Title: Children’s Family Support Worker
Job Purpose
To provide high-quality support to vulnerable children and their families within the Short Breaks Service. The role focuses on assessing needs, coordinating support, and improving outcomes, particularly for children with additional needs or disabilities. The post holder will ensure families receive appropriate respite and tailored interventions that promote wellbeing, stability, and positive development.
Key Responsibilities
Assessment & Casework
- Undertake Short Breaks assessments and Carer’s Needs assessments in line with statutory frameworks.
- Complete reviews of short break packages to ensure services remain effective and appropriate.
- Manage and process requests for care and support services.
- Ensure the voice of the child is embedded within all assessments, plans, and reviews.
Family Support
- Support families in implementing:
- Structured routines and boundaries
- Communication strategies
- Positive behaviour support plans
- Provide tailored support to families of children with disabilities or additional needs.
Multi-Agency Working
- Signpost families to relevant services, including Family Hubs and community provisions.
- Work collaboratively with professionals across health, education, and social care.
- Participate in a duty rota, responding to referrals, enquiries, and urgent support needs.
Monitoring & Review
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date case records in line with service standards.
- Ensure all interventions are outcome-focused and regularly evaluated.
- Review support packages and recommend adjustments where necessary.
General Duties
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people at all times.
- Adhere to relevant policies, procedures, and statutory guidelines.
- Contribute to continuous service improvement and best practice initiatives.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience working with vulnerable children and families.
- Experience completing assessments and reviews in a children’s services setting.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage a caseload effectively and work independently.
- Experience supporting children with disabilities or additional needs.
- Knowledge of Short Breaks services and relevant legislation.
- Experience of multi-agency partnership working.
Qualifications
- Relevant qualification in Health & Social Care, Early Years, Social Work, or equivalent.
- Ongoing professional development is desirable.
- Empathy & Compassion: Builds trust with families in sensitive situations.
- Child-Centred Practice: Prioritises the needs and voice of the child.
- Organisation: Strong time management and caseload handling.
- Communication: Clear, professional, and supportive engagement.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to assess needs and implement effective support.

- Working Pattern: 35 hours per week, Monday – Friday
- Location: Parkstyle Lane, Liverpool, Merseyside, L11 0BQ, United Kingdom
- Enhanced DBS check is required
