IUCS Salaried CAS GP
The Integrated Urgent Care Service (IUCS) within Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust provides a dedicated model of urgent and primary care, including NHS 111, Clinical Assessment Service and out‑of‑hours services.

This permanent position is part‑time, 20 hours per week and requires the incumbent to act as the Senior Clinical Lead for CAS, covering the 24/7 rota.
Main duties of the job
- Deliver timely, high‑quality clinical care and assessments primarily through telephone triage and video consultation, managing acute and chronic presentations across adult and paediatric patients.
- Provide personalised, evidence‑informed medical care to all patients requiring senior clinical assessment.
- Validate ambulance dispositions on the CAS clinical queue.
- Support healthcare professionals offering advice, guidance and navigation.
- Provide advice, treatment, signposting and onward referral as appropriate.
- Adhere to local prescribing guidelines, including electronic prescribing practices.
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date medical records, ensuring appropriate documentation and coding for consistent audit and monitoring.
- Offer clinical advice and support to non‑medical team members as requested.
- Supervise, give clinical advice and support to other learners, including GP trainees and Advanced Clinical Practitioners.
- Work in close partnership and liaison with primary care, acute and specialist services, community services, social services, mental health services and voluntary services both clinically and in relation to service development.
Qualifications
- Basic Medical Qualification.
- Current and full registration with the General Medical Council.
- Inclusion on GP Performers list.
- Evidence of ongoing management and professional development.
- Satisfactory appraisal within the last 12 months (or within the most recent 12 months of work, if on a current career break).
Experience
- Current and credible experience as a medical practitioner (GP).
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience in GP out‑of‑hours or other urgent care settings.
- Experience of driving improvement and ensuring patient safety through clinical governance systems.
- Experience of working collaboratively with other health and social care providers.
Knowledge
- Ability to make appropriate assessments in the management of primary care patients.
