Head of Engineering In‑Service Electrical (Services Engineering) – Submarines

Full Time – Derby

Responsibilities

  • Manage and direct PWR1 & 2 Electrical Work Packages throughout the Submarines Business to support the In‑Service availability of PWR1 and PWR2 platforms.
  • Manage the delivery of the Vanguard Class Manoeuvring Room Trainer and Maintenance Training Aid contract to ensure Vanguard class crew training meets the desired performance objectives.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for In‑Service Electrical technical, programme and personnel matters in support of the UK submarine programme.
  • Represent the business on technical issues with customers and other stakeholders.
  • Provide top‑level programmes with electrical/technical leadership and comply with the Engineering function’s policies and within the Chief Engineer’s Terms of Reference.
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to the Services Engineering Electrical Department including people management and development.
  • Maintain and develop Electrical Function Capability to meet current and future requirements.
  • Support the resolution of emergent electrical technical and safety issues and the operation of the Safety Management system.
  • Assist the Availability, Safety, Sustainability, Waterfront and Astute Programme teams to devise workstreams for products and related services, such that committed tasks are shown to be necessary, practicable and affordable.
  • Facilitate improvements in engineering processes, methods and capabilities.
  • Understand and implement HSE policies and provide visible leadership of HSE issues.
  • Priority will be given to employees identified as being at high risk.

Qualifications

  • Relevant Engineering/Science degree and Chartered Engineer status.
  • Knowledge of plant technical and operational attributes.
  • Knowledge of product safety cases and regulatory processes.
  • Knowledge of through‑life management requirements.
  • Project management skills.
  • UK nationality; dual nationals will require additional scrutiny and background checks prior to commencing work.
