Consultant in Palliative Medicine

Join the palliative care team at Saint Francis Hospice, located in Havering‑atte‑Bower near Romford. The hospice has 18 beds and offers community palliative care to Barking & Dagenham, Havering and Brentwood.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide consultant‑level input into the hospice ward, partnering with a colleague.
  • Lead and support non‑consultant grade medics and the multidisciplinary team to deliver holistic care for patients with complex, advanced or progressive life‑limiting conditions.
  • Provide consultant‑level input into the community team, focusing on one of the boroughs served by the hospice, including direct visiting support and indirect support of colleagues through clinical advice, education and quality‑improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to training and development of medical trainees and the learning environment for hospice staff and external care providers.
  • Participate in the regional Consultant on‑call service.

Qualifications

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council.
  • On the specialist register for Palliative Medicine or within six months of entry at the time of interview.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of all aspects of specialist palliative care.
  • Wide experience of specialist palliative care in different settings.
  • Master’s degree or other higher degree in a relevant subject.
  • Poster(s) or presentation(s) at a regional, national or international forum.
  • Research publications.
  • Evidence of a clear area of interest relevant to BHRUT and/or hospice strategy.
