Job Title
Infrastructure Engineer
Salary
£65k–£95k + Equity
Location
London, UK
Company Description
Valyu is a London-based, seed-stage startup with over £2M raised to build the foundational search and memory layer for AI agents. We are a team of nine engineering-focused individuals rethinking how AI-native applications access, understand, and act on petabyte-scale knowledge through advanced retrieval and indexing systems.
Job Description
Join Valyu to own the core infrastructure powering the next generation of AI agents. You will design and operate petabyte-scale storage, retrieval, and serving systems. By building high-performance architectures in Rust and Python, you’ll ensure that AI agents have the fast, reliable context they need for complex reasoning and research.
Why this role is remarkable
- Work at the frontier of AI infrastructure where your code defines how agents access and process world knowledge at a petabyte scale.
- Join a lean, highly technical team of nine in London backed by over £2M in seed funding, offering immense ownership and minimal abstraction.
- Experience a true renaissance in information retrieval, moving from first-principles research to production-ready systems that handle indexing and serving in real-time.
What You Will Do
- Own the end-to-end architecture of critical layers, including search and storage engines, data lakes, ingestion pipelines, and ML serving systems.
- Make foundational technical decisions on storage formats, query algorithms, and scheduling models that balance petabyte-scale latency against operational costs.
- Engineer high-concurrency systems using Rust and Python, operating them on AWS and GCP with tools like Kubernetes, Terraform, and advanced observability.
The ideal candidate
- A mid-level engineer with at least 3 years of experience shipping and operating systems-intensive infrastructure or distributed systems in production environments.
- Highly proficient in Rust and Python, with a background in database internals, search infrastructure, or scaling ML systems like vector databases and RAG.
- A relentlessly resourceful builder who has managed cloud workloads on AWS/GCP and possesses the technical judgment to make long-term architectural trade-offs.
