The Learning Disabilities Team is seeking a creative and enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist. Applicants at Band 7 are welcome as this is a preceptorship role with scope to progress to 8a, or 8a applicants with relevant post‑qualification experience.

This multi‑disciplinary team comprises Clinical Psychology, Psychiatry, Paediatrics, Learning Disability Nursing and Support Workers, OT and SALT. The team works across two main clinical pathways: behaviours that challenge and mental health for young people with a moderate to profound Learning Disability aged 0‑19 years. We also offer neurodevelopmental assessment and diagnosis for children who display behaviours indicative of Autism and/or ADHD when assessment is required to better understand behaviours and mental health difficulties. We work directly with the young people and their families, liaising closely with schools, social care and other health professionals. Parent psychoeducation groups, as well as consultation and training for colleagues across the division, are provided. All team members receive specialist assessment training and regular CPD events to enhance clinical practice.

Main duties of the job

  • Providing highly specialist psychological assessment and intervention to clients and their families, and offering indirect clinical services such as advice and consultation to colleagues and other professionals.
  • Involvement in service planning and development, including identifying needs and participating in development plan processes.
  • Contributing to the development of the Team offer.
  • Staff support and supervision, and facilitation of client‑related work undertaken by other team members.
  • Providing staff training.
  • Conducting applied research and development related to the needs of the clients served and the Children and Young People’s Division.
  • Participating in Clinical Governance activities, including Continuing Professional Development.
  • Participating in the development of operational policy, service planning and service evaluation.

Qualifications

  • Appropriate, recognised training in clinical psychology.
  • Eligibility for HCPC registration as a practitioner psychologist.
  • Skills in meeting the needs of adults and children with a learning disability.
  • Postgraduate training in a relevant area.

Experience

  • Knowledge and experience working with young people with a learning disability and their families.
  • Experience providing specialist psychological assessment and treatment for clients across the full range of mental health settings.
  • Experience assessing and managing risks presented by individuals with learning disability.

Salary: £57,528 to £64,750 a year, pro rata.
