About the Opportunity

Amentum is part of a 10-year control systems framework for designing, manufacturing, and installing control systems to aid decommissioning and operational efficiency. The project involves more than 200 nuclear facilities and over 1,000 buildings in Cumbria. We are a key supplier and are searching for a Control Systems Engineer to manage system design, programme, test and assembly on a multi‑million‑pound contract. The role supports the site’s high‑hazard risk reduction programme and will manage hybrid working with occasional site visits from teams in Birchwood Park, Warrington, Cumbria and Newcastle North East.

What you’ll be doing

  • Design and develop PLC software using platforms such as:
    • Rockwell (Studio 5000)
    • Siemens (TIA Portal)
    • Schneider (EcoStruxure)
  • Develop and configure HMI/SCADA systems such as Rockwell FactoryTalk View, Schneider AVEVA / Citect / Vijeo Designer, Siemens WinCC / Flex, Intouch Wonderware or similar.
  • Support full project delivery:
    • Concept and detailed design, system build, development and integration
    • Testing: Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) & Customer Acceptance Testing (CAT)
    • Site Installation, Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) & Commissioning
    • Contribute to system validation, testing and troubleshooting activities
    • Produce high‑quality technical documentation (design specs, test docs, user manuals)
    • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams (electrical, mechanical, project delivery)

Requirements

  • Essential:
    • Degree/HND in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems or related field (or equivalent experience)
    • Experience with PLC or SCADA programming in industrial environments
    • Familiarity with IEC 61131 programming languages
    • Experience supporting testing, commissioning, or system integration
    • Strong problem‑solving and fault‑finding skills
    • Ability to work collaboratively within project teams
  • Desirable:
    • Experience with Rockwell, Siemens or Schneider PLC platforms
    • Experience with SCADA / HMI systems
    • Background in regulated industries such as nuclear, oil & gas, pharma
    • Interest in developing multi‑platform expertise
