Overview
Element is seeking an experienced and customer-focused Application Sales Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for converting complex Requests for Quotation (RFQs) into high-quality technical proposals and quotations, while building strong relationships with customers throughout the sales cycle.
Working closely with clients, technical experts, laboratory personnel, and the sales team, you will identify customer requirements, develop tailored testing solutions, and support business growth through effective quotation management and account development.
The ideal candidate will combine strong technical knowledge with commercial awareness and excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain strong customer relationships through phone, email, and virtual meetings
- Qualify incoming opportunities and proactively identify future business potential
- Serve as a trusted advisor and liaison between customers and Element’s technical teams
- Receive, review, and process Requests for Quotation (RFQs)
- Prepare accurate and professional quotations by analysing customer drawings, specifications, and supporting documentation
- Collaborate with Program Managers and technical specialists to develop comprehensive testing proposals
- Validate documentation and identify any non-standard testing requirements
- Determine pricing and lead times using standard price lists, local costing models, and operational input
- Follow up on quotations, providing clarifications and revisions where required to maximise conversion rates
- Support the processing of complex purchase orders when necessary
- Maintain accurate records within the CRM system, ensuring customer information and activity logs are up to date
- Drive revenue growth through increased quote conversion and account penetration.
- Build and maintain a strong understanding of Element’s testing services and capabilities
- Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance technical and commercial expertise
- Ensure compliance with company policies, ethical standards, trade regulations, and all applicable health, safety, environmental, and corporate governance requirements
Skills / Qualifications
- 2–5 years’ technical experience, ideally with exposure to sales or customer-facing responsibilities
- Degree in Engineering, Materials Science, or a related scientific discipline preferred
- Experience within testing, metallurgy, composites, or a similar industry would be advantageous
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, testing procedures, and customer requirements
- Strong numerical skills with the ability to calculate pricing, discounts, and lead times.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and CRM systems (Dynamics AX and Dynamics CRM experience desirable)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and win new business opportunities
- Experience developing proposals, including cost estimates, work plans, and commercial terms
- Flexible and professional approach, with the ability to represent Element at customer meetings and industry events
- Valid driving licence and willingness to undertake occasional overnight travel
