Location: Cambridge (Hybrid – min 3 days a week on site)

Hours: Full time, 36 hours per week (8:30am – 4:30pm Monday to Thursday, 8:30am – 4:15pm Friday)

Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Principal Engineer / Consultant Welding Engineer to support a range of industries, providing office‑based consultancy, site support, process development, validation, and research into materials performance and robotic welding including additive manufacturing.
Responsibilities
- Provide welding engineering support to industrial clients across energy, defence, electrification, oil & gas, and construction sectors.
- Propose, manage, and deliver projects, ensuring scope, cost, and quality targets are met.
- Conduct welding reviews, short‑notice site support, and process development and validation activities.
- Assist in research projects related to materials performance, robotic welding and additive manufacturing.
- Respond to day‑to‑day customer enquiries and collaborate with engineering teams to meet expectations.
- Generate technical solutions through process knowledge, experimental trials and development.
- Identify and develop leads during technical conversations, generating ideas for internal/external collaborative projects.
Qualifications & Skills
- Engineered Level EWF/IIW Welding Diploma and a degree‑level qualification.
- A Certified Welding Engineer with significant demonstrable experience in welding engineering.
- Proficiency in arc welding process deployment and implementation in industry.
- Strong knowledge of codes and standards (ASME, EN ISO, API, etc.) and weld inspection/testing.
- Experience with welding procedure specification, qualification and coordination.
- Excellent planning, organisation, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work with customers directly and collaborate with technical support teams.
Additional Requirements
- Willingness to travel within the UK and abroad.
- Eligibility for security clearance checks; British nationals with clearance ability are preferred.
