Key Responsibilities

  • Utilise low-occupancy crystallography software and standard refinement packages to efficiently model and refine outputs from crystallographic fragment screening campaigns.
  • Coordinate X-ray data collection activities using internal synchrotron resources, external synchrotron facilities, and contract research organisations (CROs).
  • Design, execute, and analyse fragment screening experiments using X-ray crystallography.
  • Collaborate with internal and external scientific partners to develop cutting-edge crystallography methods, including approaches for identifying and characterising cryptic binding pockets.
  • Support fragment progression through iterative design cycles, including fragment growth, linking, and merging strategies.
  • Process and interpret large volumes of crystallographic datasets in parallel.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of structural biology workflows, automation, and data quality standards.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • PhD in Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Significant hands-on experience in protein crystallography, including solving large numbers of protein-fragment crystal structures and processing extensive datasets in parallel.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering fragment screening campaigns using X-ray crystallography.
  • Strong expertise with crystallography software including PHENIX and BUSTER.
  • Experience using FBLD-related software (Maestro/Schrödinger, ICM-Pro, GINGER, FrankenROCS, Fragmentstein, cluster4x, PanDDA)
  • Experience scripting and automating crystallography workflows, ideally within a High-Performance Computing (HPC) environment.
