Job Summary
We are looking for a motivated Clinical Pharmacy Technician to join the University Hospital NHS Trust at the Queen Elizabeth site. The role involves close collaboration with the multidisciplinary team on wards to deliver a high‑quality, patient‑focused clinical pharmacy service. You must hold or be working toward an Accredited Checking qualification.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Support the pharmacy department by providing complete pharmaceutical care to patients.
- Deliver a high‑quality, ward‑based medicine optimisation service.
- Act as a role model and provide training and mentoring to junior staff members.
- Support the in‑patient pharmacy where required.
- Carry out accuracy checking commitments.
Key person specification requirements
- A nationally recognised pharmacy technician qualification and registration with the GPHC.
- At least one year of post‑qualification experience as a registered pharmacy technician.
- A national recognised accredited accuracy checking qualification.
- A professional attitude with the ability to motivate self and others.
- The ability to remain calm under pressure.
- A flexible approach and commitment to accommodate the needs of the service.
- A strong attention to detail.
- Experience working as a clinical pharmacy technician or similar capacity (desirable).
Qualifications
Essential academic qualifications include:
- GCSEs in Mathematics, English and Science (or equivalent) with at least a Grade C/4.
- Level 2 NVQ in Pharmacy Service Skills (or equivalent) and Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills (or equivalent) as defined by the General Pharmaceutical Council.
- Professional registration with the GPhC.
- Accreditated Checking Technician qualification (National Framework).
Desirable qualifications:
- Accredited Checking Technician (National Framework).
Experience
Essential experience:
- Two years’ work experience in pharmacy pre‑qualification.
- Current practice as a band 4 pharmacy technician (or equivalent) with post‑qualification experience within an acute setting.
- Knowledge of Good Distribution Practice, health and safety at work, COSHH, dispensing, stock control, supply and IT systems.
- Understanding of medicines, side effects, and relevant policies and procedures.
- Ability to deliver a cost‑effective service and reduce waste.
Desirable experience:
- Experience working as a Clinical Pharmacy Technician or similar capacity.
- Deputising for senior personnel and coordinating daily workflow.
- Experience setting up new working practices or procedures.
- Participation in training and mentoring of staff.
- Understanding of the ward environment.
