Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician

Job Reference: SDX/TP/1373940/158405, 1 Position, Permanent – Full Time, 37.5 working hours per week, Location: Manchester.

Job Introduction

  • Salary hourly rates including RRP are from £18.19 to £21.76 per hour (equivalent to £35,572.88 to £42,543 per annum).
  • Optional overtime 1.5x rate (not guaranteed).
  • Holiday 27 days per year.
  • Training funded courses available through Sodexo.
  • Pension excellent package.
  • Location details Manchester Foundation NHS Trust Hospital, Oxford Road, Manchester, M13 9WL.

NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, confirmed via a Statement of Comparability from ENIC if qualifications were gained outside the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct preventive maintenance and routine checks on refrigeration and air conditioning equipment to ensure optimal operation.
  • Diagnose and repair faults in refrigeration and air conditioning systems promptly and effectively.
  • Manage and document maintenance activities, including logging equipment status and maintaining job worksheets.
  • Requisition and verify materials and spare parts required for maintenance and repairs.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions, perform repairs, and make minor installation decisions as necessary.
  • Ensure the safety of the refrigeration and air conditioning systems and liaise with subcontractors for safe maintenance.
  • Make recommendations for equipment replacement when repair costs exceed replacement value.
  • Maintain operational readiness by ensuring systems are on and functioning at the scheduled times.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Higher Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is an added advantage.
  • Experience in NHS or healthcare facilities.
  • Formal qualification in refrigeration and air conditioning with experience in AC and refrigeration plant.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Numeracy and computer literacy.
  • High level of interpersonal skills with the ability to work with people at all levels and disciplines within the trust.
  • Flexible and able to work under pressure while seeking continual improvements to service delivery.
  • Fully aware of relevant health and safety and general legislative matters.
  • Appreciation of risk assessment techniques as applied to estates activity.
  • Commitment, motivation and vision.
