The Accounts Assistant Job Role

The Finance Assistant is a newly created role, resulting from an internal promotion, and is ideal for an Accounts Assistant seeking a varied and challenging position within a stable, ambitious company. Working closely with the Group Financial Accounts Manager, you will reconcile all group bank accounts, credit card accounts, petty cash, and general expenses, and provide cash‑flow information.

  • Post daily banking entries and investigate and resolve all banking discrepancies.
  • Work closely with management to provide cash‑flow information.
  • Reconcile all bank, credit card, and petty cash expenses.
  • Prepare journals for banking, credit cards, petty cash, financing, and general expenses.
  • Ensure payments and expenses are posted correctly with reference to VAT.
  • Improve processes to enhance efficiencies.
  • Update bank mandates.
  • Collaboratively support teammates within the finance team.
  • Assist with purchase ledger and general accountancy duties, month‑end, etc.
  • Complete ad‑hoc project work.

The ideal Finance Assistant candidate

  • Experience in preparing bank reconciliations.
  • General bookkeeping knowledge (debits and credits).
  • Some experience with VAT is ideal.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ambitious and keen to develop a career.
  • Strong Excel skills and a good eye for detail.
  • Ideally keen to continue with AAT or at early stages of ACCA/CIMA studies.
