This role currently attracts a market supplement of £3,000 (full time equivalent), reviewed annually.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified Social Worker to join the Adult Learning Disability Team based in Cardiff Adult Services. We are seeking a Grade 8 Social Worker to join us. This is a great time to join the service as we have increased capacity to support staff development and strengthen our high-quality services.

Our Learning Disability teams are part of the directorate of Adults, Housing & Communities in Cardiff Council.

As a directorate we recognise that social workers are skilled professionals who make a real and material difference to people’s lives every day. We have two Learning Disability teams that cover the East and West of Cardiff. Our staff work alongside a specialist health team and offer multi-disciplinary support to local people. We support individuals to access a wide range of services with a focus on inclusion and supporting people to meet their outcomes.

This is an exciting time to join a service that actively promotes best practice and supports strength-based working with its practitioners. We have areas of national good practice and we are keen to build on these and develop further high quality local opportunities to meet people’s outcomes.

About the job

We are looking for Social Workers who have in depth understanding of the principles of the Social Services and Wellbeing Act and who have skills in undertaking strength-based / outcome focused assessments and court work, as well as the effective management of a complex case load. Additionally, this post includes assessing risk and supporting people to manage these risks positively.

Experience of working with people with a learning disability and autism is essential.

What We Are Looking For From You

We are looking for Social Workers who are passionate about the rights of people with a learning disability and want to be part of a service which delivers high quality support enabling people to live full and varied lifestyles.

  • Enthusiasm and passion for making a difference to the lives of young people and adults with a learning disability.
  • A strong value base and willingness to actively work with a strength based social work at the heart of your practice
  • Experience of staff supervision
  • Experience of working with individuals with learning disabilities
  • A willingness to learn commitment to excellent practice
  • A willingness to learn and develop assessment skills and a clear understanding of the Social Services and Wellbeing Act (Wales) 2014
  • A commitment to developing confidence and knowledge in operating within the Mental Capacity Act legal framework. We will help you to gain experience of Court of Protection work and process
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of citizens is an expectation of all who work in the service area
  • The ability to speak other languages, in particular Welsh, and Community Languages would be an advantage.

Additional information

This post is part time and will work 30 hours per week.

With effect from the 1st April 2021 this post attracts a market supplement of £3000 per annum full time equivalent. This payment is reviewed on a 12 monthly basis.
