These are dynamic times in Test Valley as we meet the challenge of accommodating the new housing and commercial growth we need to plan for across the borough, and delivering master‑plan led regeneration projects in Andover and Romsey.
Test Valley comprises a diverse and attractive natural and built environment including the North Wessex Downs National Landscape, the historic town of Romsey, the River Test, and the largest settlement of Andover, which is the commercial centre of the borough.

Following an internal promotion, a position as a Planning Assistant has become available in the Northern Development Management Team. With a positive attitude to development, you’ll be responsible for your own caseload of mainly householder development proposals, will attend planning committee meetings, and will represent the Council at appeals.
For this role you will be educated to degree level and will need to demonstrate a keen interest in planning, alongside enthusiasm and a commitment to continuing your personal and professional development. You’ll work in a well‑resourced and supported Planning & Development Service and will have good communication skills, the ability to interpret legislation, to understand complex issues, to be diplomatic when needed, and to produce high‑quality written reports.
