Graduate Teaching Assistant – Train to Teach in London

EdEx are exclusively partnered with 3 South East London Secondary Schools, each graded Outstanding. Each school is looking for high‑achieving graduates keen to embark on teacher training, gaining hands‑on experience before the PGCE or SCITT.

We are looking for x6 Graduate Teaching Assistants, starting September. Each role is full‑time, Monday to Friday, for at least the remainder of this academic year (until July 2027). Should you enjoy the role you may go on to train to teach from September 2027 via a salaried SCITT, with no student debt.

What skills and experience do you need as a Graduate Teaching Assistant?

  • A graduate, 1 st Class or 2:1
  • Strong A Levels and GCSEs across the board – especially in your chosen subject specialism
  • Passion for inspiring young people – this must come across during interview
  • General understanding of potential routes into teaching – you don’t need to know everything
  • Resilience, can‑do attitude and positive demeanour – teaching roles are tough, but rewarding

Experience like tutoring, mentoring, summer camps or childcare is a bonus but not essential. Most important is your desire to make an impact.

Graduate Teaching Assistant – Role Details

  • Full time, paid weekly; daily rates between £105–£120 (Term Time Only)
  • Monday to Friday, School Hours Typical 8am–4pm (no weekends)
  • Start in September through till July initially
  • Scope to go onto a Permanent Contract and Salaried Teacher Training from September 2026
  • Support students across Key Stages (KS3, KS4, KS5) 1‑to‑1 and in small groups running interventions, academic booster sessions and revision sessions
  • Support students in your chosen subject specialism (any subjects like English, Maths, Science, Humanities, Social Sciences, Languages)
  • Support students with mild to moderate SEN (Autism, Speech and Language, SEMH etc.)
  • Full classroom support alongside qualified class teachers and exceptional leaders
