Role Overview

As an SEN Support Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across the school.

Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored support to pupils with SEND across the school.
  • Work closely with class teachers and the SENDCo to implement individual learning plans and support strategies.
  • Deliver targeted one‑to‑one and small‑group interventions to support academic progress and personal development.
  • Support pupils with communication, social, emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual pupil requirements.
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and positive engagement in learning.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teachers and relevant staff.
  • Help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all pupils.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, parents, and external professionals where appropriate.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school community.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children with SEND within a school or educational setting.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
  • Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Demonstrated patience, empathy, resilience and a caring approach.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confidence working independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Ability to adapt effectively to meet the varying needs of individual pupils.
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Relevant Teaching Assistant or SEND qualifications (desirable but not essential).
