Salary expectation: Upwards of £85,000 (depending on experience)

Overview

We are currently seeking an exceptional Engineering Manager to join a high-performing and rapidly growing company. This is a key leadership opportunity for someone who can bring deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and a strong people-first approach to help elevate the business to its next stage of growth. With significant expansion underway, the successful candidate will have the autonomy to shape engineering practices, implement their own leadership philosophy, and mentor teams across the organisation. You will work closely with company directors, influencing technical direction and contributing directly to high-impact, exciting projects that drive real business value.

Responsibilities

  • Technically lead and coordinate multi-disciplined wastewater or water treatment and infrastructure projects and programs throughout the design life.
  • Lead and manage the delivery of mechanical engineering activities across water and wastewater treatment projects from concept through to commissioning.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to multidisciplinary engineering teams, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and client specifications.
  • Oversee the design, review, and approval of mechanical systems and equipment, including pumps, pipework, valves, treatment processes, and associated infrastructure.
  • Develop and implement engineering strategies, standards, and best practices to improve quality, efficiency, and project performance.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop engineers and technical staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Operations teams, contractors, and clients to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Manage engineering resources, workloads, and priorities across multiple projects to meet business objectives and client commitments.
  • Conduct technical reviews, risk assessments, and value engineering exercises to identify opportunities for innovation and cost optimisation.
  • Ensure all mechanical engineering activities comply with relevant legislation, health and safety requirements, environmental standards, and company procedures.
  • Support business development activities by contributing technical expertise to proposals, tenders, and client presentations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, supply chain partners, regulatory bodies, and internal departments.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, incorporating lessons learned and emerging technologies to enhance engineering capability and project outcomes.

Key Requirements

  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent); significant experience in mechanical design within the Utilities and/or Water sector.
  • Proven experience leading projects and/or engineering teams (or a strong desire to step into a leadership role).
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems design including pumps, pipework, valves, and treatment processes.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering environments.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) is desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to mentor and influence.
