Requirements
- We are looking for a Software Test Engineer with experience in end-to-end software testing and proving across the full development lifecycle.
- We need someone with strong knowledge of software test automation and the ability to write and run test plans, test sets, designs, and specifications.
- We require experience in software logs and data analysis, including identifying issues and supporting defect investigation.
- We are looking for knowledge of CI/CD software pipelines and tools such as GitLab, JIRA, scripting, and IBM PLM/ALM/EWM/DOORS.
- We need familiarity with Agile Scrum methodologies.
- We are seeking someone who can understand compliance and regulatory requirements, or has relevant experience in this area.
- Desirable experience includes AI test automation tooling.
- Desirable experience includes software simulation or emulator environments.
- Desirable experience includes Linux network configuration and analysis tools.
- A background in software testing, verification, qualification, or certification activities would be highly beneficial.
- The role is based in Stevenage and requires onsite presence for most of the week, with hybrid working possible.
- We are hiring for a 12-month initial contract, inside IR35.
- The role is for 37 hours per week, with overtime paid at time and a quarter for hours worked beyond 37.
Responsibilities
- We will rely on you to own the end-to-end software testing and proving lifecycle for our simulation software releases and defects.
- You will understand customer needs and requirements from a proving perspective.
- You will assess design and architecture to define software test bed requirements.
- You will develop comprehensive software test plans and create, run, and maintain test sets, designs, and specifications.
- You will carry out regular progressive software testing assurance during development cycles.
- You will lead the testing and verification of software defects.
- You will liaise with our support team to provide logs and data analysis when issues are identified.
- You will demonstrate compliance to requirements through formal testing activities.
- You will execute formal software qualification testing.
- You will provide regular updates to project leads and stakeholders on software functionality and progress.
- You will write detailed software test and analysis reports for certification purposes.
- You will support the software delivery and release process, including final certification activities.
- You will work closely with our simulation developers, Group Leads, and Project Leads within the Environment Simulators team.
- You will contribute to a rigorous, best-practice testing approach to ensure our simulations are fit for purpose and mission-ready.

We are a world-class defence organisation offering an exciting opportunity to join our Simulation Software department as a Software Test Engineer subcontractor. You will be based in our Stevenage office, working closely with our Environment Simulators team and simulation developers on mission-critical simulation products for weapon system and sub-system teams. Our department uses the full development lifecycle and agile methodologies to build rigorously tested, fit-for-purpose solutions. This is an initial 12-month contract with the potential to continue long term, offered inside IR35. The role is based on a 37-hour week, with overtime available at time and a quarter, and hybrid working is possible with likely onsite attendance four days per week. A compressed four-day working week Monday to Thursday may also be possible.
