Lead Backend Engineer (Python / TypeScript / APIs) | FinTech Consulting | Newcastle (Onsite) | Up to £180K
We’re working with a rapidly scaling FinTech business within a consulting‑led technology division, building bespoke financial systems and platforms for clients operating in complex, high‑stakes environments.
This is a hands‑on technical leadership role where you’ll sit at the intersection of engineering, architecture, and client delivery, helping design and build core backend systems that power real financial workflows.
You’ll be joining a high‑calibre engineering team in Newcastle, working closely with both internal stakeholders and external clients to turn complex requirements into robust, scalable software systems.
Tech environment
- Python (core backend development)
- TypeScript (full‑stack or service layer integration)
- RESTful APIs and microservices architecture
- PostgreSQL and relational data systems
- Cloud platforms and modern DevOps / CI/CD pipelines
- Optional exposure to frontend frameworks (e.g. Vue)

This is a full‑time onsite role (Mon–Fri) based in brand‑new central Newcastle offices. The environment is built around collaboration and high‑quality engineering.

What they’re looking for
We’re looking for experienced engineers who can operate across both deep technical delivery and client‑facing environments. An excellent track record in large‑scale engineering environments as well as strong academic achievement (2:1 or above from a Russell Group University or equivalent).
