Requirements

  • We are looking for an experienced Data Solutions Architect or similar, with a strong track record.
  • We need hands‑on cloud platform expertise across Google Cloud Platform, Azure, or AWS.
  • We are looking for a good understanding of Google BigQuery.
  • We need expertise in data platform architecture, configuration, and optimisation, particularly with MPP databases such as Google BigQuery.
  • We are looking for strong knowledge of data mesh principles, database design, data warehousing concepts, and ETL/ELT processes.
  • We need exceptional problem‑solving and analytical skills, with an eye for identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • We are looking for excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical solutions to both engineers and non‑technical executives.
  • We require a strong understanding of data security and GDPR requirements.
  • A basic DBS check is mandatory for this role.

Responsibilities

  • We will rely on you to oversee the design of our data platform architecture, ensuring it meets current and future needs.
  • We will ask you to produce clear architectural documentation and diagrams to support understanding and implementation.
  • We need you to embed a domain‑oriented ownership model and promote a Data as a Product mindset across development efforts.
  • We will expect you to assess and recommend suitable tools, infrastructure, and services to improve our platform.
  • We need you to establish and maintain architectural standards, reference architectures, and best practices across the team.
  • We will ask you to design solutions that uphold governance, security, and quality requirements.
  • We need you to ensure our data products are discoverable, interoperable, and trustworthy.
  • We will expect you to design robust data pipelines, including batch, event‑driven, and streaming architectures.
  • We need you to address operational concerns such as security, scalability, performance, observability, and user experience.
  • We will rely on you to work closely with the Principal Data Platform Engineer and Principal Data Engineer to architect and develop our data platform.
  • We need you to act as a trusted advisor on data strategy and platform direction, including data capabilities, trade‑offs, and roadmap development.
  • We will ask you to partner with domain squads to design robust data products and provide architectural guidance.
  • We need you to mentor engineers and analysts in data modelling, integration, and design best practices.
