Job overview

We are looking for a specialist Dietitian to work in spinal cord injury and haematology/oncology services at the National Spinal Injuries Centre (NSIC) and Stoke Mandeville Hospital. This role is ideal for existing Band 5 Dietitians wishing to progress or Band 6 Dietitians seeking specialization in spinal cord injury.

The post offers a fantastic opportunity to gain a variety of skills across spinal services – spinal injury, acute and rehab wards, complex nutrition support, clinical audit, cancer care and haematology outpatients – working with the multidisciplinary team and dietetic colleagues throughout Buckinghamshire.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide nutrition and dietetic services to inpatients within the NSIC and outpatient services in the CCHU.
  • Support Dietitians, Dietetic Assistants and Student Dietitians across the Nutrition and Dietetics Service.
  • Provide specialised assessment, treatment and support for patients requiring dietetic interventions.

Person specification

Education, qualifications & training

  • BSc Dietetics or equivalent.
  • HPC Registration.
  • Membership of relevant professional interest groups.
  • Evidence of CPD.

Experience

  • Assessed nutritional requirements and developed nutrition care plans.
  • Monitored and developed enteral nutrition regimens.
  • Assessed enteral feeding methods, products and equipment.
  • Accurate anthropometric skills.
  • Student training experience.

Special circumstances

  • Ability to travel to other sites if required.

Skills, abilities & knowledge

  • Working knowledge of commonly used feeding systems.
  • Awareness of regulatory bodies (HCPC) and professional bodies (BDA) code of practice and guidelines.
  • Commitment to CPD and departmental appraisal system.
  • Competent user of IT equipment and basic software (email, RIO).
  • Clear and concise communication with staff and patients.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage own caseload and time.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and evidence‑based practice.
  • Ability to plan and deliver training sessions to healthcare professionals.
