Job Description:

As our Retail Manager at Ickworth, you’ll play an important part in helping people enjoy their day. And you’ll be generating crucial funds for the National Trust to invest in protecting and caring for places, so people and nature can thrive. In return, we’ll give you the chance to be creative and give you the support and tools you need to build your career.

Hours: You’ll work 37.5 hours per week, flexible between Monday and Sunday. Shifts are between 8am‑4pm or 9am‑5pm.

Salary: £30,000 per annum

Interview date: 2nd July 2026

Internally you’ll be known as a Retail Manager (Band 1).

What it’s like to work here

Reporting to the Area Manager, you’ll lead a small team of six retail assistants and four retail volunteers. You’ll be part of the leadership team at Ickworth and work closely with the General Manager and the wider team, actively involved in making decisions that affect the whole place.

What you’ll be doing

Your focus every day will be on your customers: going out of your way to make sure they’re having their best possible day. You’ll lead your team from the front, encouraging them to speak to people and listen to what they want, and inspire them so that everyone who buys something knows what a difference their contribution, however small, will make to the Trust’s work of protecting nature, beauty and history. You’ll set stretching targets for the team and work together to achieve them through the highest standards of customer service and presentation of retail products.
