Eligibility

This position is open only to internal staff of NHS Ayrshire & Arran.

Position

Senior Health Care Support Worker based at Ayrshire Central Hospital. This post is offered on a permanent / fixed‑term basis.

Hours

Post 1: 34.5 hours per week. Post 2: 23 hours per week. Hours will be worked on a rotational shift pattern of day and night shifts with weekend commitment.

From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full‑time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro‑rata for part‑time staff) without loss of earnings.

Driving Licence

A UK driving licence is essential for this role.

What You Will Do

  • Provide support in a busy 30‑bedded general older adult rehabilitation ward.
  • Be proactive in achieving best outcomes for patients and provide therapeutic interventions to enhance rehabilitation.
  • Develop person‑centred goals and individual care plans for each patient.
  • Participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

Requirements

  • SVQ3 in healthcare related subject or equivalent knowledge.
  • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Understanding of the ward role.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Aware of relevant legislation, policies, standards, best practice statements, guidelines and capability frameworks.
  • Evidence of personal development and willingness to undertake appropriate training.

To work in the United Kingdom, a suitable right to work is required. NHS Ayrshire & Arran may offer visa sponsorship for certain roles meeting the minimum salary threshold. Sponsorship is assessed on a case‑by‑case basis after interview and pre‑employment checks. Sponsorship is not guaranteed and is not offered for Band 2 posts or bank contracts.
